. . . to Art
Students at Falcon Heights have Art for 45 minutes twice a week with Ms. Eiswald. Artists are learning there is way more to Art than "just learning how to draw!" I want kids to learn about Art, how to appreciate the art around them and look at the world "through Artist's eyes."
The art curriculum centers on the elements and principles of art, which are as follows:
|
Elements Line Shape Color Value Form Texture Space |
![]() |
Principles Balance Contrast Emphasis Movement Pattern Rhythm Unity |
The lessons in the art room are intended to teach about and serve as an example of one or more of the elements and/or principles of art. Lessons are planned using a Discipline Based Art Education model, which emphasizes art history, art production, aesthetics (looking at and judging art), and creative problem solving. Many times, a lesson will center on a famous artist's work. Students learn from a master artist while also learning about the historical context in which he or she created. Other times, a lesson will be based on the folk art of a country. In this case, appreciation for different cultures and their art is fostered as students compare and contrast the art they create with the art of the culture being studied.
