OVERVIEW and DETAILS

2011-2012 School Year

The Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires that all schools in the nation make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) toward achieving the goal of all students being proficient in reading and math by 2014. AYP results are tabulated based on all accountability tests which include MCA II, MTAS and MTELL. Roseville Area School District has been designated as a district in corrective action due to not making AYP during the past five years in reading and math. Schools that receive Title 1 funding and do not meet AYP for two or more consecutive years enter AYP consequences. Three elementary schools in the Roseville district are in consequence phases of AYP as a result of not making AYP in the same subject (math or reading) for consecutive years.

In order to make Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), schools must meet 100% of their targets in math and reading test participation (up to 18 targets), math and reading test performance (up to 18 targets), attendance for the elementary and middle level schools (up to 9 targets) and graduation for high schools (up to 9 targets). All the schools and the district made 100% of their participation and graduation targets. All schools with the exception of FAHS met the attendance targets.

Last year, as a district, ISD 623 did not make AYP and as result, we will remain in Corrective Action; the NCLB regulations do not impose District level financial consequences.

Three schools (Falcon Heights, Little Canada and Parkview) made AYP in 100% of the target cells for 2010-2011. Falcon Heights, Parkview and Emmet D. Williams are not Title I schools so NCLB consequences do not pertain to the 3 sites.

Little Canada will remain in the stage of needing to offer School Choice, but will not have any further consequences imposed. Little Canada will need to make AYP one more year to be removed from the consequences category altogether. If Little Canada were to make AYP again in 2011-2012, they would no longer have any consequences.

Edgerton and Central Park will need to continue to offer School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services (SES) in 2011-2012. Central Park is in corrective action and has created an improvement plan focusing their staff development on Sheltered Content Instruction.

Brimhall did not make AYP in two cells for Reading for 2010-2011: Limited English Proficient and Free & Reduced Price Meals. This is the first time for Brimhall to have any cells not making AYP and does not have consequences this year. Brimhall would need to offer School Choice next year if the school has a second consecutive year of having any cell not making AYP.

The following table shows the percentage of math and reading targets that each school met.
